BURÓ DE FENÓMENOS TERRITORIALES (2017-2019)

El archivo de imágenes puede visualizarse en secuencia cronológica, considerando las variaciones estéticas entre los sitios, el cambio de rollo fotográfico o las diferentes condiciones climáticas de un día a otro. Esto permite al espectador asomarse a las condiciones de vida de aquellos que habitan en estas áreas PERIFÉRICAS.

Cuando la estética colonial homogeneiza las posibilidades visuales de una ciudad, las prácticas contemporáneas suelen dirigir su mirada hacia áreas alejadas de los centros establecidos, buscando las periferias, los sitios abandonados por la mirada pública. En estos espacios, los artistas encuentran el territorio ideal para aprehender lo que ha sido desplazado o ignorado, o lo que ha sido notorios a través de campañas mediáticas de segregación social.

EL BURÓ de Fenómenos Territoriales es una institución ficticia dedicada a la investigación-acción basada en los elementos que componen la ciudad: sus habitantes, la vivienda y el trazado urbano. La Oficina opera dentro de un marco de investigación multidisciplinaria, originándose en el terreno artístico, pero traspasando los límites de la investigación geográfica y social.

Territorial Phenomena Bureau (2017-2019)

The photographs are the result of a series of seven drifts undertaken in June 2018, exploring two socially disparate and geographically opposite areas on the western and southern peripheries of the city of Morelia, Michoacán. These drifts aimed to delve into and document the lived experiences in these overlooked spaces.

The archive of images can be viewed in chronological order, considering the aesthetic variations between sites, the change of photographic roll, or the different weather conditions from day to day. This allows the viewer to glimpse into the living conditions of those inhabiting these marginalized areas.

When colonial aesthetics homogenize the visual possibilities of a city, contemporary practices often turn their focus to areas far from established centers, seeking out the peripheries, the sites abandoned by the public eye. In these spaces, artists find an ideal territory to apprehend what has been displaced or ignored, or what has been made notorious through media campaigns of social segregation.

The Territorial Phenomena Bureau is a fictional institution dedicated to inquiry-action based on the elements that compose the city: its inhabitants, housing, and urban layout. The Bureau operates within a multidisciplinary research framework, originating in the artistic realm but pushing beyond the boundaries of geographical and social studies.
